From Skeptic to Reiki Master: My Journey into Energy Healing
I never imagined that Reiki would become such a transformative part of my life. As someone who studied psychology, I approached energy healing with skepticism, unsure if it was truly impactful or simply a placebo effect wrapped in mysticism. However, as the General Manager of a holistic wellness clinic that offered Reiki, I felt it was only right to move beyond my intellectual understanding and step into the experience myself. What happened next completely shifted my perspective.
Stepping into the Unknown
At first, I struggled to fully "drop in" and receive. My mind was analytical, questioning every sensation and resisting the idea that anything profound could come from simply lying down and allowing someone to channel energy. But once my Reiki practitioner incorporated a meditative element, something changed. I felt my body relax, my breath slow, and subtle yet undeniable sensations emerge—warmth, tingling, even the distinct impression of touch on areas where she wasn’t physically placing her hands.
Then, something even more unexpected happened. I received a vision, a "download" of an old friend with whom I had been estranged. The image was so clear and pressing that I couldn’t ignore it. I took it as a sign to reach out, and that decision rekindled a meaningful friendship. Suddenly, Reiki was no longer just an abstract idea—it was a direct, personal experience that had real-world impact.
The Moment Reiki Became Personal
My curiosity about Reiki deepened when my mother was diagnosed with lymphoma. Wanting to offer her something beyond traditional medical care, I decided to train in Reiki myself. I’ll never forget the first time I facilitated Reiki for her in the hospital. Within 20 minutes, she stopped shaking, her breathing steadied, and she asked for food—something she hadn't done in days. The head of oncology even took notice, asking me to extend my stay because, in their words, "Whatever you're doing is helping us."
It was in that moment that I realized Reiki wasn’t just a gentle relaxation practice—it was a powerful tool for healing, comfort, and connection.
How Reiki Feels & What I Want Others to Know
After a session, I always feel both deeply relaxed and energized at the same time. It’s a grounded energy, as if something heavy has been lifted, leaving me clearer and lighter. Reiki helps to shed energetic debris that we accumulate, much like how we cleanse our physical bodies but often neglect our energetic ones.
I’ve learned that Reiki is not about belief—it’s about experience. No two people will feel the exact same thing, but everyone walks away with something meaningful. If you’re curious about it, perhaps this is your sign to explore an ancient healing modality that might serve you in ways you never expected.
